Why Is There Condensation On My Windows?

by | Aug 11, 2022

When you think of condensation, you may think of the beads of water running down the outside of that Slurpee that you just got from the local 7-11, but it can show up in many other places, even the inside of your windows!

What is it?

As the weather gets a little cooler, that chilly air meets the warm, cozy space inside your home. Cold air does not hold as much moisture as warm air does, so when that warm air makes contact your window, the drastic drop in temperature causes that water vapor to settle on the window. The same goes for when it is hot outside, and you have your AC working overtime. That cooler air meets the outside warm air on the window and causes moisture on the outside of the window as well.

How can I prevent it?

There are many small steps that you can take to try and fix this issue. First, simply increase the ventilation in your home. Turn on a fan or two, crack a window for a little bit, let that humidity in the indoor air out! Too much humidity can spell trouble for those with allergies and sensitivity to moisture with excessive sweating. A humidifier is another great tool to help with high moisture areas in the home.

Are my windows the problem?

Possibly. If you have older windows, especially those with a single pane, they are letting more air in than they should through the frame and little cracks where the glass meets the frame. A great way to combat this is to invest in some high quality-multiple pane windows to help block out the outside elements. As a bonus, these windows can help reduce sun glare in your home, with innovative UV blocking technology! Between the panes, there is argon gas that acts as an insulator for the window and aids in the effectiveness of your central air and heating system in your home. That is beneficial for both your comfort, and your wallet.
